Auli is the most popular skiing destination in Uttarakhand and is situated in Chamoli district of Garhwal. It covers an elevation from 2,519 mts. To 3,050 mts above sea level.Auli is often compared with the best ski resorts of the world and has also hosted the First SAF Winter Games in the year 2011. Auli is blessed with invigorating views of the splendid mountain range. The slopes of Auli provide thrills to professional skiers and novices alike.The wonderful dawn breaking behind Nanda Devi is an enchanting sight. Auli is must visit for all Adventure lovers.
Adventure Sports
Skiing is the major sport in Auli. Facilities for skiing are available from GMVN. There are certificate and non-certificate courses ranging from 4 days to 14 days. These courses include stay, food, ski-gear charges, and guide. There are local people who provide Ski Equipment for the casual tourist and also help them to learn skiing.
Slopes of Auli
Slopes of Auli The slopes of Auli are considered amongst the best skiing slopes in Asia. There are two international standard ski lifts for skiers which take them back to high slopes.
Artificial Lake
One of the world’s highest man-made lakes is at Auli. This lake has been developed to create artificial snow on the old ski slopes in the event of low snowfall.
Auli Ropeway
Auli boasts of Asia’s highest and longest cable car covering a distance of 4 km. This cable car wonder is named as Gondola. It also has a Chari Lift and a Ski Lift. The ropeway connects Auli with Joshimath. The enchanting Himalayas are distinctly visible while traveling in the Gondola.
Treks Around Auli
Gurso Bugyal:
3 km Trek from Auli will lead youth the picturesque Gurso Bugyal. Views of the imposing Himalayan peaks of Nanda Devi, Trishul and Dron Parvat from Gurso Bugyal are exhilarating. Gurso Bugyal transforms into a green pasture land during the spring season and wears sheets of snow during the winters. Perched at an elevation of 3,056 m. Above sea level, Gurso Bugyal has mixed forest of Oak and Conifer.
Chattrakund:
It is small lake holding crystal clear water. Chattrakund is situated just 1 km. ahead of Gurso Bugyal. Located amidst the jungle, this mysterious lake shrouds us with fairy tale surroundings.
Kwani Bugyal:
It is a popular destination with trekkers, situated 12 km. From Gurso Bugyal at an elevation of 3,380 m. Above sea level. The best time to visit Kwani Bugyal is from June to September.
Chenab lake:
One must pass through Dang, the last village of Joshimath, to reach Chenab Lake. The place is still unknown to most tourists and it is quite inaccessible by motorable roads.
Best Season
The best time to visit Auli is throughout the year except for monsoons. But if you want to enjoy the eternal bliss of snow, then visit Auli from December end to March. If you are planning a visit to Auli in winters then tourists are advised to bring heavy woolens, caps, socks, gloves, mufflers, pullovers, trousers, windproof jackets, sunglasses, snow boots, torch and a whistle for personal use.

There are few budget hotels in Joshimath-Auli Road as well.

By Train: The nearest railway station to Auli is Rishikesh which is situated 264 km. Before Auli on NH 58.
By Road: Auli is well connected by motorable roads with major destinations of Uttarakhand. Auli is situated only 14 km. From Joshimath which lies on NH 58.
Note*:
In winters (from December end till mid-March) the motor road from Joshimath to Auli is not operational due to heavy snowfall. The cable car is the only mode of transportation from Joshimath to Auli.
