Perched just 8 kms from Almora, Kasar Devi is a hushed hamlet situated in the silence of verdant Kumaon hills. One of the many hidden jewels in Uttarakhand, Kasar Devi village derives its name from the namesake local deity, Kasar Devi. A Devi temple erected in her reverence is a popular pilgrimage destination in the vicinity of Almora. The serenity exuberated at Kasar Devi is only superseded by the majestic panoramic view of the valleys, rivers and hamlets.

The temple structure dates to the 2 nd century CE. Swami Vivekananda visited Kasar Devi in 1890s, and numerous western seeker, Sunyata Baba Alfred Sorensen and Lama Anagarika Govinda. A place also known for Crank’s Ridge, just outside the village, which was popular destination during the Hippie movement of the 1960s and 1970s, and continues to attract trekkers and tourists, both domestic and foreign.

Martola is a picturesque place known for its scenic grandeur located about 10 km from Almora. This place is surrounded by thick woodlands and well-manicured gardens whose beauty has tempted many foreigners to settle here.

Kalimat is a fairy tale hamlet located in the Hawalbag Tehsil of Almora district. This village comes under kalimat Panchayat. It is located about 5 km North of District Headquarters Almora and 201 km from Dehradun.

Chitai Golu Devta Temple

The famous Temple of Chitai Almora is the Golu Devta Chitai temple, dedicated to Golu or Goljyu Devta an Avtar (incarnation) of Lord Shiva in the form of Gaur Bhairav. Although there are many temples of Golu Devta in Almora but the Chitai Golu Devta Temple is the most sacred one. It is reputed to make every wish come true, provided the worshipper ask for it with a clear conscience. The temple is situated at 9kms from Almora.

By Train: Kathgodam is the nearest railway station to Kasar Devi. It is located at a distance of 88 kms from Kasar Devi. Taxis and buses ply from Kathgodam towards Almora on daily basis. Ranikhet Express and Sampark Kranti Express are two trains readily available to Kathgodam.

By Train: Kasar Devi is just 8 km from Almora. Almora is well connected by motorable roads with major cities of northern India. Buses to Kathgodam and Almora can be taken from ISBT Anand Vihar, Delhi. Taxis, shared cabs and local buses to Almora are easily available in Kumaon region. The distance from Delhi to Kasar Devi is 373 km if you travel via Moradabad and Bilaspur.
